Ruth Hodges Presley, age 94, a member of one of the pioneer families of the Fincherville Community in Butts County, passed away Sunday morning, March 9, 2014 at Coliseum North Medical Center in Macon.
She was born at home March 14, 1919 in Butts County to the late Benjamin Harvey Hodges and Elizabeth Fincher Hodges. Her husband, William R. Presley, was executive vice president of First National Bank of Atlanta and passed away in 1980.
Mrs. Presley graduated from the old Bessie Tift College in Forsyth and was employed as a teacher with the Butts County Board of Education for over 30 years. She was a member of the Butts County Retired Teachers Association. She grew up as a member of the Sardis Baptist Church in Henry County and later moved her membership to First Baptist Church in Jackson.
Survivors include her children, Tommy and Carol Presley, Bill Presley, Gwen Presley; grandchildren, Kim and Mike Conley, Tanya and Chris Bunn, Kevin and Stephanie Presley, Michael and Tyanne Presley, Cathy and Kenneth Presley, Melanie and Billy Shirah; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Ruth Hodges Presley were Tuesday, March 11 at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson. Dr. Ed Hoard and the Rev. Lane Sanders officiated with interment in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Henry County.
